FB: Conference Indiana Teams Have Another Strong Week

Staff Report

All in all, it was another successful Friday night for
Conference Indiana
football teams. The conference went 5-3 in week two, running its non-conference
record to 11-5 on the season. CI teams split with MIC opponents in two games
this week, sending the record to 3-1 after two weeks. Here is a rundown of the
action.

Bloomington North 21 Bedford N. Lawrence 16— The Cougars
aren’t steamrolling opponents, but they are 2-0

Bloomington South 28 Martinsville 6— The Panthers got an
impressive performance from a much maligned defense.

Columbus East 35 Columbus North 3— The Bull Dogs lost
bragging rights in the city for a year and obviously have some regrouping to
do.

Roncalli 30 Franklin Central 7—There is never any shame in
losing to the rebels. This was new coach Brian hairpin’s first loss at the helm
of the Flashes.

Lawrence Central 28 north central 16— The Bears continue
to give notice they will be the most improved team in the conference.

Center Grove 55 Perry Meridian 14— The Falcons can at
least look forward to the schedule becoming a little more reasonable in coming
weeks. Ben Davis and Center grove back to back is hard on anybody.

Pike 39 Decatur
Central 7—The Red Devils have picked up right where they left off last
season.

Southport 43 Anderson
9—This represents the biggest win in Bill Peebles time at the helm of the
Cardinals.

This is the first time in Cardinal history that the boys’ soccer team has started the season 3-0. The boys’ started the game scoring within the first three minutes to put them up 1-0. Then they scored on themselves to tie the game at 1-1. That was the only time Franklin Community put up any points.

Sophomore Wes Oliver and Junior Kraig Roberts both scored goals in the second half to put the Cardinals up 3-1.

Coach Josh Brown wasn’t thrilled with the game but said he’ll take the win.

“Even though we played poorly, we found a way to win, which was something we didn’t do last year,” Brown wrote in a email to the Southport News Bureau.

Cardinals Vs. Rebels

Southport’s opening game against Roncalli ended in a 20 point loss, Friday Aug. 22. In the first quarter, Southport tied the game up at 7-7. Fans were roaring in the tightly packed stands of Southport High. It was three fumbles by the Cardinals and two long passes thrown by Roncalli for first downs that made the difference in the game.

“The stats were even. It was just those things that made the difference in the game. Both teams were tough, but we are in better shape. We could have pulled it out, if we didn’t have so many mistakes in the beginning,” said head coach, Bill Peebles.

The game ended with 27-7 loss for the Cardinals. Junior Joe Gilliam had the best defense of the game. While seniors Nick Turner and Triston Crowe played a great game. Turner had an all around good game himself. Meanwhile, Crowe had great catches and blocks.

“I would say that this was Nick Turner’s best game,” said Peebles.

FB: Conference Indiana Football Summary

Staff report

Conference Indiana made a
strong claim last season as the best football conference in Indiana. Friday, on opening night, CI teams
did little to make anyone believe the conference will not be just as strong
this year. The conference went 6-2 in round one with several resounding
victories. Here is a capsule look at how CI teams fared.

Pike eliminated any doubts as to whether they would be as
good this time around by throttling North Central 52-14. The Red Devils scored
the game’s first 31 points.

Bloomington South added another MIC notch to the league’s
belt by blasting Terre Haute South 42-21.

Franklin Central used a devastating rushing attack to topple
Decatur central
14-7 in Coach Brian Harbin’s debut.

Bloomington North struggled squeaking by past Edgewood 41-35

Southport lost to Roncalli in the renewal of a fabled south
side Indianapolis
rivalry. However, the Cardinals were more than respectable in the 27-7 loss.

Lawrence Central raised some eyebrows with a 17-0 shutout of
rival Lawrence North, yet another win over a MIC team.

Columbus North displayed an explosive offense against Seymour, but had
defensive problems in a 35-19 victory..

Perry Meridian found life after Adam Wiese a little rough,
losing to powerful Ben Davis 55-14
