Base: Brownsburg’s Barnhart tapped Mr. Baseball

Brownsburg catcher Tucker Barnhart has been named the 2009 Indiana Mr. Baseball by Hoosier Diamond, the award’s sponsor.

In the closest vote over the 18-year history of the award by high school coaches, Barnhart nosed out Southport’s Cameron Perkins. Barnhart, a recent 10th-round selection of the Cincinnati Reds, hit .369 with eight doubles, six home runs, and 25 runs batted in his senior season for the Bulldogs.

Adam Norton of Class 3A state champion Andrean, Westfield’s Kyle Kramp – the Butler-bound pitcher recently named Indiana High School Player of the Year and a 45th-round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants – Nolan Early of Anderson, and Noblesville’s Jake Wood also were among top vote-getters.

Hoosier Diamond also made the following award presentations for the 2009 season:

•    Rookie of the Year: Ryan Spaulding, Oak Hill
•    Pitcher of the Year: Dillon Peters, Indianapolis Cathedral
•    Defensive Player of the Year: Kevin Schlotter, Fishers
•    Junior of the Year: Steven Rice, Crawfordsville
•    Offensive Player of the Year: Adam Norton, Andrean
•    Assistant Coach of the Year: Box Dixon, Portage
