BA: Pike defeats Cards convincingly

 

The Southport baseball team traveled to Pike High School Tuesday to take on their conference rival the Pike Red Devils. The Cards came up short however, as they had arguably their worst night of offense this season, racking up 13 strikeouts as a team, leading to Pike coming out on top 11-2. Seniors Dan Barr and Bret Wampler were the lone bright spots on offense, combining for three hits and driving in all three of Southport’s runs.  


The Cardinals will look to snap their small two game losing streak when they take on township rival Perry Meridian tomorrow. Senior RHP Kenton Armbruster will be on the mound to take on the Falcons at Holder Field. First pitch at 5:00pm.

BA: Southport eases past Columbus East

 

The Southport baseball team took on Columbus East last night at Holder field and thrashed the visiting Olympians 11-1. Senior RHP Kenton Armbruster went three strong innings on the mound allowing one run with four strikeouts.  Senior OF Dan Barr had a career night at the plate going four for four, needing just a triple to complete the cycle. Barr also drove in five runs with Senior OF Zach Rust adding two RBIs.


The Cards will take on Ben Davis in the first round of the Marion County tournament this Friday at North Central High School. Southport will try to defend their title and go for a third straight county championship.

BA: Cards win one, lose one at Avon Inv.

 

The Cardinals traveled to compete in the Avon Invitational and finished 1-1 on the day. Southport came out on fire in their first game against Martinsville, working to an early lead and never looking back. The final score was 21-3. Junior SS Austin Begley led the Cards on offense, hitting two home runs in just one inning, and driving in four runs.         


In the championship game, Southport took on the Avon Orioles, but didn’t start or finish the game the way they expected, with Avon coming out on top, 12-2. Senior 2B Austin Young went 1-3, driving in the Cardinals’ two runs.


Southport now sits at 7-3 on the season and will travel to Pike High School on Tuesday to take on the Red Devils.  Junior RHP Danny West will be on the mound for the Cards. First pitch at 5:00p.m.

SB: Lady Cards beat the Flashes 1-0

 





On Tuesday, April 27, Southport’s girls softball team played against the Franklin Centra Flashes. The won with a score of 1-0 keeping their record as undefeated in Conference Indiana.

 

Senior Nikki Thomas ws on the mound and had fifteen strikeouts and also had a timely double. Junior Stephanie Winter hit an RBI single towards right center that got Thomas to home. Junior Chelsea Angelo also played a great game on defense, making some great plays.

BG: Cards defeat Cathedral

 The Cards beat Cathedral 154-157. Leading the Cards was Jay Oswalt shooting a 35. The next highest scorer for the Cards was sophomore Dustin Baker with a 36. The Cards are now currently 3-0.

SB: Cards are now 3-0 in their Conference, with a win over Bloomington South

 





On Thursday, April 22, Southport’s softball team played against Bloomington South. The Lady Cards won with a score of 11-0, putting the team at 3-0 in Conference Indiana.

 

Sophomore Sarah Owens was three for four while at bat. Owens hit a trible and recorded three RBI’s. Senior Kaitlyn Dreibelbis was two for three while at bat and recorded two RBI’s.

 

“Offensively and defensively it was a great game,” said coach Melissa Franzosi.

GT&F Conference Indiana: #2 Lawrence Central completes sweep at IU

Second-ranked Lawrence Central won five of 16 events in holding off surprise runner-up No. 17 Franklin Central for the team title April 30 at the Conference Indiana Championships, joining the Bears’ boys in victory at Indiana University.
The Bears totaled 133 points to 108.5 for FC, with No. 16 Columbus North (88) nipping 12th-ranked Southport (87) for third and No. 5 Pike (81.5) finishing a disappointing fifth in the eight-team event.
Four of Lawrence Central’s five wins came in the field events as Taja Moore won the discus (143-9 ½), Lauren Cowden captured the long jump (17-2), Camille Hayes won the high jump (5-6), and Margo Tucker took the pole vault (12-8). The Bears also got a W from Ariana Ware, who won the 300-meter hurdles with a :44.66.
LaTeasha Hill was one of five Franklin Central winners, taking the shot put with a 38-4, while Danielle Sullivan was a double winner in winning both the 1,600 (5:11.24) and the 3,200 (11:17.11). Julia Talhelm captured the 400 in 1:00.31, while the Flashes’ 4×400
Relay unit won in 4:02.35.
Columbus North’s lone victory came from Rachael Sollman in the 800 (2:19.37).
Southport won two events as Saymah Kollison took the 100-meter hurdles in :15.01 and the Cardinals’ 4×800 relay foursome came home in a victorious 9:44.26.
Pike had three winners, two of them coming in events where the Red Devils went 1-2: Morgan Yeadon (:12.32) and Chelsea Yeadon (:12.58) in the 100 meters, and Lauren Ford (:25.71) and Yeadon (:25.99) in the 200. Pike’s 400 relay unit also won in :48.17.
