BB: Cards loss to Grizzly Bears

The Cards boys’ basketball team went up against the Grizzly Bears of Franklin Community last Friday but fell quite short of a victory. The boys never seemed to get it going on offense as they came out cold and finished cold, resulting in a 64-43 loss. Sophomores Kellon Thomas and Mike Ramey led the Cards on offense with 13 points apiece.

Southport will look to rebound from this loss this coming Friday against south-side rival Center Grove. The Cards were defeated badly by the Trojans last year at Center Grove, 69-55, and will look for revenge as the JV squads tip off at 6:00 with varsity following soon after.

The Southport Girls Swimming & Diving team suffered a defeat at home on Thursday evening, November 19th, in a hard-fought season debut meet against Ben Davis. The final score was Southport 60, Ben Davis 123. Head Coach Jeffries, in his first-ever meet as coach of Southport, is definitively optimistic.

“I am pleasantly surprised by some things, however this meet does serve as a reminder of what work we have yet to do,” Coach Jeffries said after the meet.

Jeffries cited sophomore Kristin Kelly and junior Elizabeth Dart as girls who swam above and beyond expectations. Kelly had a PR

When asked to look forward on overall goals for the season, he noted that the team has a lot of learning to do, and that specifically, a lot of technical training lies ahead.

“Ultimately our goal this season is to get the technique down,” Coach Jeffries said.

The Cardinal Girls’ next meet is away at Pike, Tuesday at 6pm.
