Boys’ Track Team Suffers First Loss
Last night,
the boys’ track team had a meet versus Lawrence Central, which was a meet that
Coach Nathan Fishel had said would be an indicator of where the team stands.
The Cardinals lost 70-62 to the Bears in a meet that essentially came down to
the last events.
“We had no
unity,” said junior Daniel Morris. “The kids on the other team were all
together, but we were all just doing our own things.”
Morris
believes that this was a factor in the team’s first loss of the season. Despite
the team’s loss, Southport’s distance runners controlled their races. Sophomore
Lance Nelson took first place in the 1600 meter run, and sophomore Tim Mosier
took third. Nelson also won the 3200 meter run, Mosier placed second and Morris
placed third.
The boys’
are scheduled to compete in the Southport Relays on Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m.
