The Southport High School boys’ soccer team shutout #20 ranked Roncalli 2-0 on August 21, 2008. This was the first time in seven years that the Cardinals have beaten a top 20 ranked team. Senior Ulises Ramos and Freshman Drew Oliver both tallied goals for the Cardinals. Sophomore Wes Oliver had both assists. Nic Angeloff recorded his first ever shutout. The Cardinals start their season with a 2-0 record. The Cardinals next match is August 26 at Franklin Community. “The team played with a passion and desire that I have not seen in my time here with the program,” Coach Joshua Brown wrote in an email to the Southport News Bureau.
