The Cardinals traveled to compete in the Avon Invitational and finished 1-1 on the day. Southport came out on fire in their first game against Martinsville, working to an early lead and never looking back. The final score was 21-3. Junior SS Austin Begley led the Cards on offense, hitting two home runs in just one inning, and driving in four runs.
In the championship game, Southport took on the Avon Orioles, but didn’t start or finish the game the way they expected, with Avon coming out on top, 12-2. Senior 2B Austin Young went 1-3, driving in the Cardinals’ two runs.
Southport now sits at 7-3 on the season and will travel to Pike High School on Tuesday to take on the Red Devils. Junior RHP Danny West will be on the mound for the Cards. First pitch at 5:00p.m.
