The boys track team competed in an indoor invitational at Wabash College on Tuesday, March 9th.
All pre-season indoor meets are not scored officially. Instead, they serve as qualifiers for the Hoosier State Relays, which take place on Saturday, March 20 at Purdue.
Sophomore Cameron Turner qualified for the Hoosier State Relays in the long jump, and came up just short of qualification in the 55-meter dash. He was Southport’s sole qualifier Tuesday.
“We had a lot of ‘almost qualifiers,’” said head coach Nathan Fishel in an interview on Wednesday.
Senior Trevor Young, who qualified for the Relays in a meet at Indiana Wesleyan on March 5th, cleared fourteen feet in the pole vault, on his way to an attempt at the school record. Senior Tim Mosier won the 3200-meter run.
The Cardinals are scheduled to compete next in another indoor meet in Lafayette, on Saturday, March 13th.
