The Southport boys’ track and field team kicked off their indoor season on Friday, March 5th, at Indiana Wesleyan University. The meet, along with a slew of other indoor meets around the state, serves as a qualifier for the Hoosier State Relays, an elite statewide competition which is the indoor track equivalent of a state meet. Team scores are not recorded at these meets.
The Relays are scheduled to be held on March 20th, at Purdue University.
Southport senior Trevor Young was the only Cardinal on the boys’ team to qualify for the Hoosier State Relays. Young, a pole vaulter, said he has high hopes for the season.
“I’ve never done this well at the first meet,” Young said in an amiably-given interview earlier today. He hopes to be one of the top competitors in the state tournament this season.
