Falling short only to the Perry Meridian Falcons, the Southport Girls Swimming & Diving team eked out a second place standing in the six-team Southport Classic on Saturday, December 5th. The Lady Cards beat Bishop Chatard by only one point.
The final score was Perry Meridian 128, Southport 61, Bishop Chatard 60, Heritage Christian 43, Cardinal Ritter 25, Owen Valley 4.
“We’re ecstatic,” said Assistant Coach Anastasia in an interview the Monday after the meet. She noted that in all, forty personal bests were attained over the course of the meet. She also said that among other notable performers were junior Lizzy Dart who won the 100 meter fly, senior Shelby Ogle who dropped time in at least one of her events, and sophomore Kristin Kelly who achieved a personal best in each event she competed in.
“It was an awesome meet,” said Coach Anastasia. “The team really stepped up as a whole, you could tell by the look on the kids’ faces that they knew they had done well.”
Anastasia noted that her confidence rests heavily on the fact that whereas last year the team won a mere three meets, this year they have only lost once, and they’re only three meets into the season.
The Cardinals compete away against Whiteland on Tuesday, December 8th.
