INDIANAPOLIS – It was “Senior Night” Feb. 27 as 3A Indianapolis Howe Academy hosted Southport, and it looked early on like the visiting Cardinals would spoil the night for the Hornets’ four seniors.
At the first-quarter break, Southport held a slight 20-18 lead. Then the wheels fell off that bus.
Howe (14-7) took control of the game, outscoring the Cardinals 32-12 over the next 16 minutes. The Hornets’ swarming defense forced Southport (11-9) into hurried shots and bad passes, leading to easy transition buckets to seal the deal.
Falling behind 50-32 after three quarters, the Cardinals could not recover from running into the Hornets’ nest and limped through the fourth quarter before finally falling, 58-42.
Sophomore guard Kenny Enoch led the way for Howe with 14 points, and sophomore guard Alvin Boutte added 12. Senior guard Julian Walker paced the Cardinals with 16 hard-earned points, while senior forward Chris Drullinger struggled to add nine.
Howe will face the winner of the Indianapolis Northwest-Brebeuf opening-round game of Sectional 26 at Beech Grove March 6. Southport drew Whiteland in Game 2 of Sectional 11 at Center Grove March 4.
