The
basketball season kicked into high gear over the weekend and Conference Indiana
teams were right in the middle of the action. As expected, the league’s two top
rated teams both picked up victories. Bloomington South was in action Friday
night. The Panthers demolished Bedford 73-45. On Saturday night, Franklin
Central took to the hardwood and came away with a 76=63 triumph over Columbus
east.

Elsewhere,
it was a mixed bag for most of the CI squads. Bloomington North may have had
the most exciting weekend. The Cougars fell to Monroe County rival Edgewood
Friday 58-54. They bounced back Saturday night with an electrifying double
overtime verdict over Center Grove 59-58. Julian Boatner hit the game winning
shot at the end of the second extra session. He led the Cougars with 19 points.

Pike picked
up their first win under new coach Pete Spoljaric Friday when they downed Ben
Davis 89-83, but the Red Devils fell to Avon Saturday 73-71. Marquis Teague led
Pike with 26 markers. Columbus North also split a pair of contests. The Bull
Dogs fell to a tough Shelbyville squad Friday 55-53. They rebounded Saturday
night with an 85-76 verdict over Martinsville.

Southport
fell into the one up and one down pattern. The Cardinals fell to Center Grove
Friday evening 69-55, but thrashed Greenfield-Central the next evening 62-39.
Southport placed three players in double figures in the victory. Lawrence
Central knocked of Indianapolis Tech 63-60 Friday night and then became the
latest victim of North Central Saturday, 80-55. Perry Meridian picked up their
first victory Saturday as they frolicked past Indianapolis Manual 72-31.

Conference
play begins this coming Friday night. The headliner will be Franklin Central’s
visit to Columbus North. Elsewhere, Southport will travel to Bloomington South,
Lawrence Central will entertain Pike, and Perry Meridian will be at Bloomington
North.
