On Saturday, March 1, 2008, the Southport girls’ gymnastics team competed in the Warren Central Sectional. The team placed ninth overall and did not advance to the regional meet, but sophomore Madison Baker advanced to regionals individually in the floor competition by placing fifth with a score of 8.65.
Although Baker was the only advancing gymnast for Southport, sophomore Aubrey Rudisill placed tenth in the all-around competition with an overall score of 32.875. Junior Arielle Fidler placed 34th all-around, and freshman Kassi Sparks placed 35th as well. Rudisill missed advancing by less than one point.
“It was really frustrating,” Rudisill said. “I came so close, but at least Madison is still competing.”
The regional meet is scheduled to be held at Harrison West Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2008.
